The William J. Holstein papers, , consist of scrapbooks containing documents relating to Holstein's professional and personal life; printed material related to the Overseas Press Club and Overseas Press Club Foundation; books written by and with Holstein; digital materials; and photographs.

The majority of the collection is made up of scrapbooks created by Holstein. Each scrapbook comprises magazine and newspaper articles written by Holstein; as well as article drafts; telegrams regarding news of import while Holstein was in Hong Kong; photographs; book proposals; speech outlines and presentations; and personal and professional correspondence.
